MIXED CHAMBER ENSEMBLE REPERTOIRE

Through my work with Catchfire Collective, I've spent a lot of time trying to exhaustively catalog all works for "Pierrot + Percussion". Beginning with Matthew Coley's dissertation, I have sought to expand the database, and also include works commissioned by Latitude 49, where saxophone parts may be translated onto flute, or performed by a flutist who can play saxophone, akin to the traditional violin/viola doubling.

This list also includes a very small number of pieces for 6 instrumentalists which can be played by such a sextet, but some members may exclusively play auxiliary parts (such as the wine glasses in George Crumb's "Dream Sequence."

As a guide for freelancers, I also take note of the exact percussion instrumentation used in each work - such that future instrument purchases may be guided by the statistical likelihood of the instrument being used. Understanding the instrumentations has also led to a (completely arbitrary and subjective) system of rating the "size" of each piece, rated and color coded by how much of a pain it will be to set up, or the size vehicle needed to transport it all. The standard of measurement is roughly 1 Glockenspiel (Musser 2.5 with X-Stand).

My personal copy of this database includes access to private scores or recordings - please contact if you need help finding information about a piece.

This database is freely accessible to all.
